What happened?
Amazon announced expanded commercial liability insurance requirements for Amazon US. From November 2, 2026, sellers with monthly sales exceeding $10,000 must still obtain commercial liability insurance within 30 days, with coverage of at least $1 million per occurrence and in the aggregate. The new rules target categories subject to enhanced safety requirements, including children’s products, cosmetics, edible products, and lithium battery products. Sellers of these products must maintain the same coverage regardless of whether their monthly sales reach $10,000, and the requirement applies to both new and existing listings. For sellers registered in mainland China, insurance policies newly submitted from November 2 must be obtained through Amazon Insurance Accelerator. Amazon will reject newly submitted policies that are not AIA policies. Third-party policies submitted earlier that remain valid may continue to be used until expiration. The sellers most affected include mainland China cross-border sellers, low-volume sellers in high-risk categories, and sellers of products containing lithium batteries or intended for children.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
On Amazon US, sellers of children’s products, cosmetics, edible products, and lithium battery products must maintain commercial liability insurance of at least $1 million per occurrence and in the aggregate even if monthly sales are below $10,000. From November 2, 2026, mainland China sellers must submit new policies through Amazon Insurance Accelerator; existing valid third-party policies may be used until expiration.
