UNFI Fiscal Fourth-Quarter Sales Decline
UNFI said fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year sales declined in fiscal 2026 due to optimization actions, short-term project work and comparisons affected by last year’s cyberattack, while it continued rolling out AI supply-chain systems.
What are the key facts?
- 1UNFI full-year fiscal 2026 sales declined 2%
- 2UNFI deployed an AI supply-chain and procurement-planning platform to all distribution centers
What happened?
United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) reported fiscal fourth-quarter sales of $7.64 billion for the period ended Aug. 1, down 0.7% from approximately $7.7 billion in the same period a year earlier. Full-year sales were $31.15 billion, down 2% from $31.78 billion the previous year. The company attributed the decline to planned optimization actions and short-term project work, and also cited comparisons affected by last year’s cyberattack. CEO Sandy Douglas said the company would help partners grow, accelerate operational momentum and restore revenue growth in the next fiscal year. UNFI is also advancing technology upgrades across its supply chain, including deploying an AI-driven supply-chain and procurement-planning platform to all distribution centers to improve order fulfillment and inventory management. The company is expanding its distribution center in Joliet, Illinois, and implementing full-case automation, using robots for case packing and handling.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
UNFI is advancing an AI supply-chain and procurement-planning platform while sales are declining, with a focus on improving order fulfillment, inventory management and operational efficiency. Cross-border sellers should use sales data more promptly to review replenishment timing, inventory structure and procurement plans, reducing the risk of stockouts and excess inventory occurring at the same time.
