What happened?
Amazon announced updates to 2027 U.S. Referral Fees and FBA fees on November 5. Most new rates will take effect on January 15, 2027. FBA fulfillment fees will increase by approximately $0.19 per unit on average, equivalent to about 0.8% of the average product selling price. The actual change will vary by product size, weight, selling price, and category. Amazon said FBA fuel and logistics surcharges will remain unchanged for now. Inventory-related fees will also change: from February 1, 2027, Amazon will eliminate the inventory utilization surcharge and combine the aged-inventory surcharge with monthly storage fees into a single age-based rate. Inventory held for less than six months may see no change or lower fees, while the cost of long-term stagnant inventory may rise. The low-inventory fee will mainly apply to SKUs with less than 28 days of supply. The changes will have a greater impact on U.S. FBA sellers, seasonal stocking sellers, oversized-product sellers, and brands with slow inventory turnover.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
The 2027 U.S. Referral Fee and FBA fee updates will directly change per-unit fulfillment costs and inventory holding costs, particularly for oversized, seasonal, and slow-moving ASINs. Sellers should update profitability calculations by January 15, 2027, and inventory-fee calculations by February 1, 2027.
