What happened?
Amazon US announced that new dangerous goods identification questions will appear for certain products when sellers create or edit Listings starting October 26, 2026. The scope includes refrigerant-containing equipment such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and freezers; shock absorbers and suspension lift supports; markers and writing instruments; and pool and spa water treatment products. Sellers must submit accurate answers based on product specifications, chemical composition, refrigerant information, ink properties, or packaging. Amazon will use the answers to determine whether a product is dangerous goods, which fulfillment methods may be used, and whether additional safety documents are required. Existing Listings will not all be immediately re-reviewed when the rule takes effect, but the questions will be triggered the next time they are created or edited. Incomplete or incorrect answers may delay Listing activation, restrict fulfillment methods, send inventory into dangerous goods review, or result in additional disposal costs. The sellers most directly affected include those in appliances, automotive parts, stationery, and pool chemicals; the original notice recommends preparing SDSs, safety labels, refrigerant model numbers and quantities, and other materials in advance.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
Amazon US sellers of appliances, automotive parts, stationery, and pool chemicals must answer new dangerous goods identification questions when creating or editing relevant Listings. Incomplete documentation or answers may delay Listing activation, restrict fulfillment methods, send inventory into dangerous goods review, and create additional disposal costs.
