USPS to Adjust Ground Advantage Pricing on October 18
USPS will apply three destination ZIP Code-based price groups to some domestic Ground Advantage packages, so shipping costs may increase or decrease.
What are the key facts?
- 1USPS will introduce geographic pricing for some domestic Ground Advantage packages
- 2The new system uses three price groups based on the destination ZIP Code
- 3USPS Priority Mail is not affected by the change
- 4eBay will automatically calculate the new price for orders using calculated shipping
What happened?
An official eBay seller community announcement says that, starting October 18, 2026, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will introduce geographic pricing for some domestic Ground Advantage packages. Previously, the affected packages were mainly priced according to standard and remote areas, while the new system will assign them to three price groups based on the recipient’s destination ZIP Code. As a result, shipping costs may increase or decrease depending on the destination, even when package weight and service level are the same.
The announcement specifically states that this is not an across-the-board price increase. USPS Priority Mail is not included in the change at this time. For sellers using eBay’s “calculated shipping” setting, the platform will automatically calculate the new price based on the buyer’s address. Sellers using eBay Labels will continue to see the applicable discounted rates on the platform.
The sellers most affected are those selling within the United States and using USPS Ground Advantage, particularly businesses with many low-weight packages or orders covering remote areas.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
Starting October 18, 2026, some domestic Ground Advantage packages will be assigned to three price groups based on the recipient’s destination ZIP Code, so shipping costs for orders with the same weight and service level may increase or decrease. Sellers using eBay calculated shipping or eBay Labels should review free-shipping pricing, margins on low-value products, and performance for remote-area orders. USPS Priority Mail is not affected by this change.
