Amazon Tightens Product Bundle Packaging Requirements
Starting January 11, 2027, most product bundles sold under a single ASIN must be packaged by the original manufacturer or brand owner, subject to certain exceptions.
What are the key facts?
- 1Most single-ASIN bundles must be packaged by the original manufacturer or brand owner
- 2New policy takes effect January 11, 2027
- 3Unauthorized self-assembled bundles may be removed
- 4Certain products and virtual bundles are exempt
What happened?
Amazon has updated its product bundling policy and plans to require, effective January 11, 2027, that the vast majority of product bundles sold under a single ASIN be packaged by the original manufacturer or brand owner. Bundles assembled independently by sellers without brand authorization and sold under one ASIN may be removed and recorded as a Listing Violation. Listed exceptions include repackaged products with written brand authorization, bundles under gift-related browse nodes, camera products, and virtual bundles created by brand owners or authorized resellers through the Virtual Bundles tool. At the same time, the scope for creating bundles of books, music, video, DVDs, video games, gift cards, service plans, and certain multi-brand consumables has been expanded. The change primarily affects China-based cross-border sellers, wholesalers, gift-set sellers, and third-party sellers who assemble their own inventory. Sellers should address or correct non-compliant inventory before the policy takes effect and prepare brand authorization letters in advance.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
Sellers that assemble bundles themselves and sell them under a single ASIN may face removal and a Listing Violation record. Before January 11, 2027, review inventory, packaging methods, and brand authorization documents; retain evidence for bundles that qualify for exceptions.
What should sellers do now?
- 1This week, export all bundles sold under a single ASIN and classify them as self-assembled, brand-authorized, gift-node, or Virtual Bundles items; create a remediation list identifying the basis for each exception and the person responsible.Procurement List
- 2For self-assembled Listings that must remain active, verify written authorization and packaging responsibility with the brand for each item; organize authorization letters, corresponding ASINs, and validity scopes into a brand documentation folder ready for submission.Platform Policy
- 3For bundled inventory without written brand authorization and outside the exceptions, arrange to sell through or remediate it before January 11, 2027; record the outcome for each item—removal, repackaging, or bundle adjustment—to close the entire list.
