What happened?
Amazon plans to update its Commercial Liability Insurance requirements from November 2, 2026. Under the current rules, sellers with monthly sales exceeding $10,000 generally must obtain commercial liability insurance with at least $1 million in both per-occurrence and aggregate coverage within 30 days after reaching the threshold. The updated requirements further cover categories with enhanced safety requirements, including children’s products, cosmetics, edible or ingestible products, and lithium battery products. Even if sellers have not reached the $10,000 monthly sales threshold, they may be required to maintain at least $1 million in coverage, and both new and existing Listings may be affected. For sellers located in mainland China, insurance policies newly submitted from November 2 must be obtained through Amazon Insurance Accelerator; third-party policies submitted previously and still valid may continue to be used until expiration.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
Amazon plans to expand the scope of Commercial Liability Insurance requirements from November 2, 2026. Children’s products, cosmetics, edible or ingestible products, and lithium battery products may require at least $1 million in coverage even when monthly sales do not exceed $10,000. New policies submitted by mainland China sellers must also be obtained through Amazon Insurance Accelerator, so sellers should organize Listing and insurance documents in advance.
