Amazon Japan Updates FBM Delivery Requirements
Amazon Japan is updating FBM delivery performance assessments and default handling-time settings, including AHT, SSA, and delivery-time requirements.
What are the key facts?
- 1Automated shipping and delivery-time settings will be gradually enabled on Amazon Japan from October 20, 2026
- 2Orders using AHT may be exempt from the corresponding late shipment rate target assessment
- 3FBM orders not using SSA must maintain an on-time delivery rate of at least 97% from November 9
What happened?
Amazon announced new FBM shipping and delivery-time settings for sellers on Amazon Japan. From October 20, 2026, the platform will gradually enable automated settings for handling time and transit time. Orders using Automated Handling Time (AHT) may be exempt from the corresponding late shipment rate target assessment; orders with Shipping Settings Automation (SSA) enabled may be exempt from the corresponding on-time delivery rate assessment. Sellers must still use the tools correctly and fulfill orders as required. From November 9, 2026, FBM orders that do not use SSA and continue to use manually configured delivery times must maintain an on-time delivery rate of at least 97%. In addition, account-level default handling-time settings will offer only “Same business day” and “Next business day” options from October 20; sellers previously set to two days may be automatically changed to “Next business day.” Sellers most affected include Japan FBM sellers, stores with many SKUs, sellers relying on manually maintained shipping templates, and sellers shipping directly to Japan from China, the United States, and other regions.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
Amazon Japan FBM sellers need to review shipping templates, handling times, and delivery-time settings, especially stores managing many SKUs manually. From November 9, 2026, orders not using SSA must maintain an on-time delivery rate of at least 97%; using AHT or SSA does not replace the obligation to fulfill orders properly.
What should sellers do now?
- 1This week, review each FBM shipping template on Amazon Japan, identify SKUs with AHT or SSA enabled, and confirm the coverage of the automated settings; complete a mapping of SKUs, templates, and tool status, with zero missing entries.AI Customer Service
- 2For Amazon Japan FBM orders not using SSA, review recent manually configured delivery times and promised settings, prioritizing SKUs shipped directly from China, the United States, and other regions; produce an exception-order list and ensure the on-time delivery rate reaches at least 97%.
- 3Check the account-level default handling-time settings and confirm that after October 20, 2026, the only options are “Same business day” and “Next business day”; review each template previously set to two days and retain adjustment records.
