What happened?
eBay said that starting November 4, 2026, it will gradually introduce eBay balance to eligible U.S. individual sellers and sole proprietor sellers. Existing spendable funds will be converted into eBay balance, which sellers can use to buy items on eBay, purchase shipping labels, or promote listings without additional fees. Funds that are processing or on hold cannot be used for purchases on eBay, but can still be used to purchase shipping labels or process related order refunds. For withdrawals, the default option is on-demand payouts. Sellers can also choose automatic payouts daily, weekly, every two weeks, or monthly. If no funds are earned, used, or withdrawn from the balance for 330 consecutive days, the system will automatically pay the funds out to the bank account. The change mainly affects U.S.-based individual sellers and sole proprietors and may not cover corporate sellers or all cross-border business accounts. Sellers need to review the payment paths for cash flow, advertising fees, and shipping labels.
What does this mean for cross-border sellers?
For eligible U.S. individual sellers and sole proprietors, existing spendable funds will gradually become eBay balance. Review the payment paths for promoted listings, shipping labels, and some refunds, and realign payout schedules so fund usage does not conflict with planned bank deposits.
What should sellers do now?
- 1Review the payment settings for U.S. individual seller and sole proprietor stores, confirm eBay balance, on-demand payouts, and daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly automatic payout options, and create a cash-flow path record.Profit calculator
- 2Check advertising promotions, shipping labels, and order-refund charges for each affected store, distinguish available, processing, and held funds, and create a charge-path checklist marking any anomalies.
- 3Set balance-review reminders for U.S. stores, focusing on cases where no funds have been earned, used, or withdrawn for 330 consecutive days, and complete and archive screenshots of balance, payout, and fee records this week.
